Moving FAQs: Answers Before You Book Your Move

These moving FAQs answer the questions people in Kenya ask us most often about house moves, office relocations, packing, storage, prices, insurance and moving day itself. If your question is not here, call or send a message, and our move coordinator will answer it directly.

Questions

Booking and planning: moving FAQs

These moving FAQs cover how to book, how early to plan and what we need from you before the day.

How early should I book my movers?

Book two to three weeks ahead for most house moves. For month-end weekends, December and early January, book a month ahead if you can. Small moves and lorry hire can often be arranged within a few days.

Do you do a survey before giving a price?

Yes. For most homes and offices, we survey in person or by video call. As a result, the written quote is accurate and you avoid surprises on the day. Meanwhile, small moves can be quoted from a list or photos.

What information do you need for a quote?

We need both addresses, the moving date, the size of the home, a list or video of the items, and details about stairs, lifts and parking. Also tell us about heavy or fragile items such as pianos, safes, glass tables or large TVs.

Can I change my moving date after booking?

Yes, if you tell us early. We will move the booking to the next free date. However, last-minute changes during busy periods can be hard, so let us know as soon as plans change.

Moving FAQs on quotes and payment

How much does a house move cost?

It depends on your items, access, distance and date. Therefore we assess the move first, then agree the price with you in a written quote. Our moving cost guide explains each factor.

Is your price fixed?

Once agreed, yes. After the assessment, we agree the price with you in writing, so delays do not change it. It only changes if the job changes, for example if you add rooms, items or an extra stop.

How do I pay?

A small deposit holds the date, and you pay the balance when the move is complete. We accept M-Pesa and bank transfer and issue a receipt for every payment.

Are there hidden charges?

No. The written quote lists the crew, truck, materials and extras. If something is not on the quote, we do not charge for it unless you ask for it on the day.

Packing and boxes

Do you provide boxes and packing materials?

Yes. We supply boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, tape, stretch wrap and wardrobe boxes. You can buy them alone or as part of full packing. Our moving boxes page lists sizes and prices.

Should I pack myself or hire packers?

Many clients pack clothes, books and linen themselves and leave the kitchen and fragile items to us. That mix saves money and still protects breakables. Our packing services page explains the options.

What should I not pack in the boxes?

Keep money, jewellery, documents, medicines, laptops and phone chargers with you. In addition, do not pack flammable items such as fuel, paint thinners or full gas cylinders.

Moving day FAQs

How long does a house move take?

A one-bedroom move within Nairobi usually takes half a day. By contrast, a three-bedroom house usually takes most of a day. Long-distance moves take one to two days, depending on the route.

Do I need to be at home during the move?

Someone you trust should be at both homes to show the crew what goes where and to sign the inventory. Otherwise, you do not need to carry anything.

Will you take apart and rebuild my furniture?

Yes. Dismantling and reassembling beds, wardrobes and tables is part of our full house moves. Moreover, we label every part and keep screws in marked bags.

What if it rains on moving day?

Our trucks are covered or carry tarpaulins, and furniture travels wrapped. If heavy rain falls, we pause loading for a short time rather than let things get wet.

Care, damage and insurance

How do you protect furniture?

We wrap furniture in moving blankets and stretch wrap, protect corners, move appliances upright and secure every load with straps. Similarly, glass and mirrors travel in cardboard frames.

What happens if something is damaged?

Tell us on the day and note it on the delivery sheet. We investigate quickly and, where we are at fault, repair or compensate as agreed in your quote. That is why we photograph valuable items before loading.

Do you offer moving insurance?

We can arrange goods-in-transit cover for high-value moves through an insurer. Also check your home insurance, because many policies cover items during a move. The Insurance Regulatory Authority lists licensed insurers in Kenya.

Moving FAQs for offices and businesses

Can you move our office over a weekend?

Yes. Most office moves happen on Friday evening and Saturday, so staff return to working desks on Monday. See our office movers page for the full plan.

Do you move computers and servers?

Yes. We pack computers, screens and printers in padded crates and label them by desk. For servers, first your IT team shuts them down and we move them in protective cases.

Can you move a school or a shop?

Yes. For example, we plan school moves during holidays and shop moves after closing time, so teaching and trading carry on.

Storage and specialist items

Can you store my things between homes?

Yes. We store furniture and boxes in clean, secure storage for a few days or several months. See our storage services page.

Do you move pianos, safes and cars?

Yes. Pianos travel on dollies with padded covers, safes move with heavy-duty equipment and cars travel on flatbed trucks. Our furniture and specialist items page links to each one.

Questions

Long-distance moving FAQs

Do you move to other towns in Kenya?

Yes. We move between Nairobi and every county, including Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nyeri and Meru. See our service areas.

What is a shared load?

A shared load means your items travel on the same truck as another client on the same route. You pay for the space you use, which can cut the price of a long-distance move a lot.

Questions

Moving FAQs about pets, plants and appliances

Can you move my pets?

We do not carry animals on the truck, because the ride is noisy and hot. Instead, pets should travel with you in your car. For long trips, plan stops for water and short walks. Also keep cats and dogs in a quiet room on moving day, so they do not run out of an open door.

Can you move my plants?

Yes, for short moves. Potted plants travel well within Nairobi if we load them last and unload them first. However, long trips in a closed truck can damage plants through heat and lack of light. So for long-distance moves, we suggest carrying favourite plants in your car.

How should I prepare my fridge and washing machine?

First, empty and defrost the fridge a day before the move, and dry it well. Then, after the move, let it stand upright for a few hours before you switch it on. For a washing machine, drain the water and fit the transit bolts if you still have them. Meanwhile, disconnect gas cookers from the cylinder and carry the cylinder separately.

Can you move my TV and mount it again?

Yes. We take the TV off the wall, pack it in a padded box and carry it upright. Then, at the new home, our handyman can mount it again on the same day. See our TV mounting page for prices.

Moving FAQs about access and buildings

What if the truck cannot reach my door?

Some estates and apartments have narrow roads or low gates. In that case, we park as close as possible and carry items the rest of the way. Alternatively, a smaller truck can shuttle items to the main lorry. Tell us about access when you book, so we plan for it.

Do I need permission from my building to move?

Many apartments require notice before a move, and some limit moving hours or ask for a lift booking. Therefore check with your caretaker or management a week ahead. We can share our crew and truck details with them if they ask.

Still have questions?

We hope these moving FAQs have helped. If you still have a question, simply call or message our move coordinator. You can also read our moving guides for checklists, packing tips and cost advice. Whatever you are moving, we will give you a clear answer and a written price.

Costs and pricing

A note on moving prices

We do not publish fixed prices, because every move is different. Instead, we assess each move, send a written quote and agree the final price with you, so the figure you agree reflects your real move. If you are working to a budget, tell us early. Then we can suggest options, such as packing some boxes yourself, moving mid-month or sharing a truck on long routes.
